Remembering the 2009 Season

There are few moments in time were we as human beings can change the course of history. Many will remember the year 2009 as being an important, no, THE most important moment in all of world history. In the year 2009, four men came together to form a fantasy football league that would shake the fate of all mankind.

Founded by T. Oxendine, the league held its first draft with four members: Berthiaume, Wilson, R. Oxendine, and T. Oxendine. The first ever pick was Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings by Berthiaume. The newly created league was named the Sick Nasty Football League, and its first game began on September 10, 2009 with the Snappin Turtles (Wilson) defeating The TRONS (T. Oxendine), and Canadian Pwnage (Berthiaume) defeating The Ox (R. Oxendine).

The first SNFL season was an overwhelming success. Canadian Pwnage ended with the most points in a season (1554.32) and most wins (10-4), while The Ox and Snappin Turtles each tied with a 7-7 record. The regular season was not a successful one for The TRONS (4-10), who set a record for most consecutive losses (4) at the beginning of the season. However, the playoffs would show that dreams, and championships, are won in December, and not in the regular season.

For The Ox, who was riding a 3 game win streak, the combination of Maurice Jones-Drew and Chris Johnson produced a force that could not be stopped. The Ox finished with a bang, winning the first ever SNFL Championship Game (or what today is called the Pink Wolf Clan Bowl). Yet, the true story was the game between the lowly TRONS against the high scoring Canadian Pwnage. In what would be called the greatest upset in league history, and maybe even sports history, The TRONS crushed Canadian Pwnage 121.48 to 99.72. The season would finish with the final game pitting The Ox against The TRONS, with The Ox winning 130.78-122.04. In the end, the final standing were The Ox (champion), The TRONS (runner-up), Snappin Trutles (third place winner), and Canadian Pwnage.

Today, the SNFL has grown into something truly special. Now boasting 10 teams, 2 conferences, and a new site (NFL.com), the SNFL is seen as the basis for which all fantasy football leagues are to be built by.
